Brief History

REINCARNATION & PAST LIFE

Several verses of the Vedas and Upnishads has talked about Rebirth

Rig Veda speak of Rebirth (Punarjanam), for example 10.59.7.

पुनर्नः सोमस्तन्वं ददातु पुनः पूषापथ्यां या सवस्तिः ||
शं रोदसी सुबन्धवे यह्वी रतस्य मातरा |

punarno asuṃ pṛthivī dadātu punardyaurdevī punarantarikṣam |
punarnaḥ somastanvaṃ dadātu punaḥ pūṣāpathyāṃ yā svastiḥ ||

Once again give me this earth, once again the sky and universe, once again this land blessed by the moon, once again this land of plenty.

Chandogya Upanishad which is part of Samaveda talks about rebirth.

Among them, those who did good work in this world [in their past life] attain a good birth accordingly. They are born as a brāhmin, a kṣatriya, or a vaiśya. But those who did bad work in this world [in their past life] attain a bad birth accordingly, being born as a dog, a pig, or as a casteless person.

Rig Veda 10.16 has a prayer to god Agni. The dead person should be sent to the forefathers. Let him take a rebirth and increase his offspring.

Again, O Agni, to the Fathers send him who, offered in thee, goes with our oblations.
Wearing new life let him increase his offspring: let him rejoin a body, Jātavedas.

Rig Veda Book 10.59 has a prayer requesting the gods to give good sight and other organs in next birth.

Give us our sight again, O Asuniti, give us again our breath and our enjoyment.

Long may we look upon the Sun uprising; O Anumati, favour thou and bless us.

May Earth restore to us our vital spirit, may Heaven the Goddess and mid-air restore it.

May Soma give us once again our body, and Pūṣan show the Path of peace and comfort.

Yajurveda 4.15 has a prayer requesting for a good and healthy life in the next life. It also has a request to preserve us from misfortune and dishonor.

Thought hath returned to me, and life; my breath and
soul have come again.
Our bodies’ guard, unscathed, Vaisvânara Agni preserve us
from misfortune and dishonour.

Yajurveda 19.47 mentions that there are two paths for the soul. One path leads to rebirth and other one frees the soul from cycle of birth and death.

I have heard mention of two several pathways, way of the
Fathers, way of Gods and mortals.
On these two roads each moving creature travels, each thing between the Father and the Mother.

Atharvaveda 7.67 has a prayer requesting for a healthy sense, possessions, knowledge, wealth and prosperity in next life.

May sense return to me again, and spirit, return my Sacred Power and my possessions!
Again let fires, aflame on lesser altars, each duly stationed, here succeed and prosper.

The AMA committee stated their agreement with the report of the BMA, and it recommended that instruction in hypnosis be included in the curricula of medical schools and postgraduate training centers. [In 1987 the AMA rescinded almost all policies from 1881–1958. As a result of that decision the AMA now has no official position on the use of hypnosis.]

1961 The AMA Council on Mental Health recommended that medical students should receive 144 hours of training in hypnosis over a 9- to 12-month period at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

1978 The Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) formed a section for “Hypnosis and Psychosomatic Medicine”.
